about

This split cassette was recorded onto a cheap walkman from the back of a nightclub in Montreal where Fossils and I performed in 2008. David Payne (Fossil-in-Chief and the gentleman behind the Middle James Co label) placed his beat-up little handheld mono machine onto a table some 300+ feet away from the stage in order to capture the sound reflecting waaaaay down the hall and overloading the crappy built-in mono condenser mic.

The sound that ended up captured on Payne's normal-bias cassette is a wildly inaccurate representation of the music performed that evening. It sounds disgusting. Judging by this recorded evidence, my set consisted of three songs, I think. It's hard to tell. I talk a bit between songs, but... heck if I can make out my own words. Fossils played two songs... or maybe one. I'm not sure.

I did a little bit of equalization to the master tape before posting it here, but this album is presented pretty much as-is: hissy and noisy and muddy. There is audible audience chatter, glasses clinking, the door opening as people drifted in and out of the room. As a self-contained album on its own terms, I like it. You might not. But it's cheap, so... you get what you pay for. If you really feel it's necessary, you can even download it as FLAC!
